Does God still answer prayer today?

Yes. The invitation to ask did not expire with the first century. James writes to ordinary believers and says that if anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask God, “who gives to all liberally and without reproach.” That is a standing invitation, not a special gift for a few.

What Scripture does not promise is that every request will be answered the way we picture it. Paul asked three times for a thorn to be removed and was told no (2 Corinthians 12:8–9). Jesus himself prayed that the cup would pass, then prayed, “not what I desire, but what you desire” (Mark 14:36). An answered prayer can be a change in circumstances — or a change in us.

So how do you pray when you are not sure anyone is listening? Keep going, and keep it plain. Ask for what you actually need. Say what you actually feel. Then watch for the quieter answers: a verse that will not leave you alone, a friend who says exactly the right thing, a willingness to forgive that you did not have last month.

If you have been praying for something for years, that is not a sign you are doing it wrong. It is a sign you are still talking to God. That is worth something.
